How to Use Creative Visualization to Achieve Your Goals

Creative visualization is one of the most important skills that you need to develop to achieve your goals.  Why?  Because every single thing that is created first starts out as an idea that someone visualizes and then brings to life.

For example, the blog that you are reading right now is the product of creative visualization.  In 2019, I had an idea that I wanted to stop writing for other publications and instead publish my writing on my own website.  It was a tiny, mustard seed of an idea.

That tiny idea that I visualized became a project.  I had a vision of what I wanted to create, and at each step in the process, I kept visualizing my end product.

Well, two years and nearly 100 blog posts later, I now have blog that is read by people from all over the world.  I also have a weekly newsletter read by a group of subscribers who have an interest in learning about how they too can “Create A Great Life.”

That is the power of creative visualization.  When you visualize a goal, that vision can take you from planning to creating to the full execution of that goal.

Creative Visualization Is for Everyone

People tend to be put off by creative visualization because it sounds very new age-y.  However, realize that it is a technique used by all kinds of people, from business people to athletes.  There is no hocus-pocus to it.  It simply involves visualizing yourself achieving your goal.

Having a picture in your mind of your achieving your goal is critical to your success.  Why? When we imagine ourselves reaching our goal, that goal then becomes possible in our minds.  In short, creative visualization is a way to train our brains to view our goal as actually achievable.

When we think our goal is possible, we will put in the work toward achieving it.  And that hard work is what leads to success.  If you don’t think your goal is possible, you won’t work to make it happen.

More importantly, creative visualization makes us more highly attuned to the creative ways that we can achieve our goals.  Realize that very day, we are surrounded by ideas, inspiration and people who can help us reach our goals.

When we spend time each day visualizing our goal, our radar is set on high alert!  We see the world through a new lens.  Creativity flows.  And we inexplicably attract ideas, inspiration and opportunities to get us to the finish line.

Simple Creative Visualization Techniques

There are many ways to creatively visualize your goals.  The simplest way is to spend a couple of minutes each day meditating on what it would look like to achieve your goal.  You have to tap into the classic childhood activity of “pretending.”  In your mind, pretend that you already have achieved your goal.

Meditate on what your life will look like once you’ve achieved that goal.  How will you feel?  In what ways will your life have changed?  Get specific and pretend that you have actually achieved the goal and you are enjoying your well-earned success.

Another technique to creatively visualize your goals is to create either a Vision Board or a Vision Notebook.  The board or notebook are tools to help you visualize your goal.

For example, let’s say that your goal is to lose a certain amount of weight.  Your vision board may include a photo of yourself when you were at your ideal weight.  That picture will help you realize that your goal is achievable.  After all, you were your ideal weight once.  There is no good reason that you can’t be at that weight again!

The key is to visualize either in your mind, or by looking at a board or notebook, you achieving your ultimate goal.  Simulate how you will feel.  Perhaps you will feel joy.  Or you may feel proud.  Or at peace.  The key is to use these tools to visualize yourself succeeding in your goal.

The Power of Visualizing Your Goals

Creative visualization is powerful.  It is the way to achieve seemingly impossible goals.

First, creative visualization helps us to realize that our goals are possible.  When we visualize achieving our goals, they become more real to us.  And when we believe our goal is possible, we then are willing to put in the hard work to achieve that goal.

Moreover, creative visualization keeps us motivated.  When we see in our mind’s eye how our lives will dramatically improve when we reach our goal, we feel inspired!  And that inspiration then gives us the work ethic to attack that goal with all our mental and physical energy.

And then there is the very un-scientific, “I can’t possibly explain this, but it’s true,” power of creative visualization.  When you visualize your goals on a regular basis, for some reason, the unexpected happens.

Ideas flow from your brain that you didn’t realize you had.  Opportunities come out of nowhere.  The right people cross your path.  When we intensely focus on something, we somehow attract that very thing into our lives.

In my own life, I’ve had job opportunities come my way just by visualizing the kind of job that I wanted.  For example, when my daughter was young, I wanted to be able to work from home so I could be available to her after school.  At the time, work-from-home jobs were rare.  But I kept visualizing a job that would allow me to work from home.

Then one day, out of the blue, a former employer asked me to return to work for them.  Not only did they need me to return to work for them, but they wanted me to work for them from home.  I didn’t seek out this opportunity.  It sought me out.  Creative visualization is just that powerful.

When you creatively visualize your goals on a daily basis, work hard, and are kind, amazing things happen in your life.  Good opportunities track you down.  Creative ideas flow from you.  You have lucky breaks.  Try using the creative visualization tips above, and achieve your greatest goals.
